What you actually need in November
Picture the 7 a.m. walk to the car. Frost on the windshield, keys in one hand, scraper in the other. A parka is overkill for the drive. A hoodie leaves you scraping the glass with cold wrists.
That gap is what a mid-weight jacket covers. You want something you can throw over a tee or a hoodie, with pockets that hold a phone, and a front you can open when the store is warm.
Here's the part most guides skip. Almost everything in this price range is fleece, and fleece does not stop wind. It traps warm air until a gust pushes straight through it. One jacket on this list has a real shell. That is the whole reason it's first.
The Quilted Bomber (TEAMLTD, $110)
Quilted Bomber is a matte nylon bomber with a flannel-lined interior, a snap button front, and ribbed collar and cuffs. There's a zippered left chest pocket and two front side pockets. The hem is straight cut and sits at the waist. It comes in Green and Black.
The shell is 90% nylon, 10% spandex. That is the difference. Wind hits the nylon and stops. The flannel lining does the warmth, the ribbed collar and cuffs close the gaps at your neck and wrists, and the spandex means it moves when you reach for the door handle.
Wear it over a tee in October. Wear it over a hoodie in November. It's the jacket you leave in the truck.
The catch, and there are three. Stock is thin: as of November 3 it's Green in Small, Medium and Large, plus Black in Medium. That's all that's left. It's hand wash cold and air dry, so it isn't a throw-it-in-the-machine jacket. And a bomber hem sits at your waist, so a long hoodie will hang out the bottom.
It's ours. TEAMLTD is a Canadian brand that ships from Canada, and for 10+ years we've handled design, decoration, QC, warehousing and fulfillment in-house.
The competitors
### Uniqlo Fleece Full-Zip Jacket, $49.90
The cheapest real option here. Full zip, stand-up collar, raglan sleeves, and side seam pockets. Piping at the cuffs and hem helps keep cold air out. It's a layer more than a jacket: great under a shell, thin on its own once it drops near zero. Colours go on sale often, so check a few before you pay list.
### Roots Creekside Shearling Fleece Jacket, $118
High-pile fleece brushed on both sides, a classic fit, and zippered hand pockets with contrast binding. It zips instead of snaps, and zippered pockets hold keys more securely. But it's still fleece, so the wind gets through. It's $8 more than the bomber and does less in a gust.
### Roots Cypress Quilted Jacket, $94.98 (regular $188)
The closest thing here to the bomber, and the better buy on paper. Onion-quilted organic cotton twill in a plaid pattern, with snap kanga pockets, snap buttons and a cord collar. Cotton twill cuts wind far better than fleece. The catch: it's only under $150 at its sale price, and a sale can end any day. At $188 it's off this list.
If you want something else from TEAMLTD
- Warmer: Plaid Sherpa Jacket, $140. Heavy flannel outer, sherpa-lined body and collar. Down to Burgundy Plaid in Large and Black Plaid in Extra Large, so check before you plan on it. More in our sherpa jackets guide.
- Wet days: Essential Rain Shell, $90. Waterproof, with a hood. Throw it over the bomber when it rains. More in our rain jackets guide.
- Everything else is in Jackets.
Shipping and the border
TEAMLTD ships from Canada, so orders delivered in Canada skip the duties and border fees you can get when a jacket comes from a US warehouse. Shipping in Canada is free on orders with a subtotal of $100 CAD or more, before taxes and after discount codes, so the bomber clears it on its own. Full details in the FAQ.
